BUT THEY ARE WEARING MASKS. ONE MILWAUKEE ALDERMAN IS SO ANGRY HE’LL BE TAKING UP THE ISSUE THIS WEEK BEFORE THE COMMON COUNCIL CHILLING SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS THREE YOUNG MEN OR BOYS RUNNING FROM THE GAS STATION CARRYING A RIFLE, SECONDS AFTER TWO WOMEN AND TWO GIRLS WERE AMBUSHED IN THEIR CAR, SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES. NEWS CHOPPER 12 SHOWS THE SCENE SURROUNDED BY POLICE, 33 AND 28 YEAR OLD WOMEN CRITICALLY WOUNDED, NINE AND FOUR YEAR OLD GIRLS ALSO INJURED. WE NEED TO HAVE A SAFE SUMMER IN MILWAUKEE. GUN VIOLENCE HAS TO END AND IT’S INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING FOR ME AS A LAWMAKER. THE SHOOTING HAPPENED IN ALDERMAN PETER BRUEGEL’S DISTRICT. MILWAUKEE POLICE ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR THE SHOOTERS, WHO APPEAR TO BE WEARING SKI MASKS. THERE’S NO REASON TO WEAR THOSE ON A 90 DEGREE DAY BECAUSE OF THAT. BRUEGEL’S IS PROPOSING A MILWAUKEE SKI MASK BAN. HE’LL INTRODUCE NEXT WEEK AND YOU FEEL LIKE PEOPLE HIDING THEIR IDENTITIES IS ONE WAY THAT THE VIOLENCE IS CONTINUING. IT’S UNNERVING. UM, WHEN WHEN YOU’RE IN A GROCERY STORE, I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH A CONSTITUENT WHO SAID, YOU KNOW, THERE ARE PEOPLE WEARING THOSE MASKS INSIDE GROCERY STORES AND BEHAVING STRANGELY. THE HEAD OF MILWAUKEE’S OFFICE OF COMMUNITY WELLNESS SAYS PARENTS AND OTHER LEADERS NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB OF TEACHING CONFLICT RESOLUTION WITHOUT DEADLY VIOLENCE. THAT’S SOMETHING THAT WE GOT TO GET YOUNG PEOPLE INVOLVED IN AND ANALYZING BECAUSE AT THIS STAGE, UM, THE NORMAL RESPONSE FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE AND A LOT OF PLACES IN OUR COMMUNITY IS TO RESPOND WITH VIOLENCE. NICK ASKED FOR THE ALDERMAN’S PROPOSED SKI MASK BAN. WOULD THAT INCLUDE MEDICAL MASKS? HE BELIEVES THERE WOULD BE MEDICAL EXEMPTIONS AND RELIGIOUS EXEMPTIONS AS WELL. THAT’S STILL BEING DRAFTED. Milwaukee police continue to search for three suspects in a bold ambush-style shooting at a southwest side gas station.Chilling surveillance video shows three young men or boys running from the gas station, carrying a rifle and handgun, seconds after two women and two girls were ambushed in their car and shot multiple times. The women, 33 and 28, were critically wounded Wednesday at the BP gas station at 60th Street and Oklahoma Avenue. The girls, 9 and 4, were also injured, but their injuries were not life-threatening. Milwaukee police said Thursday the women were expected to live. "We need to have a safe summer in Milwaukee. Gun violence has to end, and it's incredibly frustrating to me as a lawmaker," first-term Milwaukee Alderman Peter Burgelis said Thursday.The shooting happened in his district. Burgelis said the shooters appeared to be wearing ski masks, prompting him to propose legislation next week. Burgelis said he's modeling his ordinance after one in Philadelphia that went into effect in December after a string of violent crimes involving suspects wearing the balaclava-style ski masks which cover the entire face and head except for the eyes.
